GEARS OF WAR
“GEARS INK”
Few game franchises can boast the devotion of Gears of War. Others may have more fans if the measure is total sales, but when it comes to visible devotion, nothing can match the passion displayed by Gears fans who tattoo the logos and weapons and the franchise hero Marcus Fenix himself permanently onto their skin.
The original Gears of War was released in 2006, and given how tattoos fade over time, we knew there were many worn-looking pieces of body art in need of touching up. So, to celebrate the release of the remastered version of the original Gears of War in 2015, we remastered the tattoos of Gears fans.
PART 1: Introducing Gears Ink & Calling for Tattoos
In Part 1, we found fans with Gears tattoos on social media and invited them to have their ink remastered. Those who said yes got refreshed tattoos by renowned artist Steve Soto and appeared in the Gears Ink introduction video, calling on more fans to get their tattoos remastered. Bonus: we gave Gears of War creator Rod Fergusson his first-ever Gears tattoo.
PART 2: COMIC-CON EVENT
We collected tattoos submitted by fans in response to our Gears Ink intro video and let the public vote to choose the four lucky fans whose Gears tattoos were remastered at San Diego Comic-Con.
